Contributing

Brutal Honesty Kit is a copy-in governance and validation kit. The current public release is v3.7.1; the installable implementation still lives under v3.5/ for path compatibility.

Before Opening Work

  • Check existing issues or discussions before filing duplicates.
  • Keep changes narrowly scoped and public-facing.
  • Do not rename v3.5/ unless every validator, template, fixture, example, and output-default path is audited in the same change.
  • Do not add package-distribution claims unless packaging is actually added.

Pull Requests

  • Explain the user-visible change and the validation you ran.
  • Preserve the v3.7.1 release-index / v3.5 implementation-path distinction.
  • For kit changes, use the Brutal Honesty PR-body fields from v3.5/templates/pr-body.md.template or the merge snippet in v3.5/templates/pr-body-merge-snippet.md.
  • Avoid new AI co-author trailers in commits unless the maintainer explicitly requests them.

Local Validation

Start with the install guide:

  • v3.7.1/INSTALL.md
  • v3.5/INSTALL.md

Run the focused tests or validators that cover your change. If a gate is not run, say so in the PR and explain why.

Security

Do not open public issues for vulnerabilities. Follow SECURITY.md.
